Here’s more:
Reb Zalman will share wisdom and knowledge about maggidut.
The maggidim, itinerant preachers, who traveled from town to town inspiring Jews with rousing sermons and lively stories, were a big part of the Jewish revival called Hasidism. Today too, we need committed individuals to wake the Jewish people to return to their Root. The role of the maggid– the inspirational teacher and storyteller — is being revived in our time.
The Jewish Spirit Maggid Training Program, the first program to train people for this holy work, began seven years ago under the direction of Maggid Yitzhak Buxbaum, who has smicha as a maggid from Rebbe Reb Shlomo Carlebach (the memory of a tzaddik for a blessing) and from Rebbe Reb Zalman (may his light continue to shine). Reb Shlomo and Reb Zalman, both of them great maggidim, are models for today’s maggidut. Maggid Reb Yitzhak has thus far trained and ordained 28 men and women into this holy lineage and empowered them to go out and inspire their fellow Jews and the whole world.
In addition to the adjunct faculty, which includes teachers with expertise in storytelling, inspirational speaking, etc., such as Diane Wolkstein, Arthur Strimling, Pastors Michael and Addie Banks, many noted teachers have shared their wisdom on conference calls, including: Rabbi Simon Jacobsen, Rebbetzin Esther Jungreis, Rebbe Reb Zalman; Rabbi Lawrence Kushner, Howard Schwartz, and others.
Classes are conducted by conference calls and twice-yearly live intensives.
The program is nondenominational. Among its students are men and women who are Orthodox, Conservative, Reform, Reconstructionist, Jewish Renewal, and unaffiliated, from all professions and walks of life, including rabbis.
